In the inland, you are greeted by magnificent medieval settlements and untouched by time villages such as Tripodes, Filoti and Apiranthos, a jewel of mountainous Naxos. You will admire the architecture and steal a little of its authentic culture. Also, the highest mountain of the Cyclades is located in Naxos with its foothills close to Apeiranthos. It is said that Zeus was born in a cave on Mount Zas.
You will see prestigious towers such as the Bazaios Tower, built in the 17th century. It now hosts numerous cultural activities such as the famous Naxos Festival.
Enjoy swimming and sunbathing on endless coastlines such as the magnificent best sandy beaches of Agios Prokopios beach, Agia Anna beach, Plaka beach, Orkos beach, mikri Vigla beach, Kastraki beach and last but not least Hawaii beach in the southwest.
Naxos is among the most popular windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in Greece. The Northern winds called meltemia that blow over Naxos in summer months create the perfect spots for these sports. Laguna beach, Plaka beach and Mikri Villa beach hosting many centres that offer courses and rent the proper equipment.
Mainly due to the island’s size it is easier to explore its inland by own means, mostly car, but local transportation is also a very common method visitors select to explore most villages even the most remote ones.
Further more, Naxos offers great opportunities for island hopping. Small boats depart form the port of Naxos on daily trip to Delos, Myconos and Santorini. Also, Paros, Antiparos, Schinoussa, Heraklia, Donoussa and Amorgos are within a close reach from Naxos.
